October 2025 saw the start of our young writers’ programme – kindly sponsored by the Malcolm Bradbury Trust and supported by the English department at Alderman Peel High School. Workshops are run by Patrick Barkham.

This image was taken in November 2025 at Warham Camp – a place with nearly three thousand years of human settlement and natural features like this oak tree which is home to an owl.
The national curriculum allows less and less time for creative writing as children advance through senior school. Our monthly workshop aims to encourage those who love writing to keep developing their creative ideas as part of a group. The workshop meets outdoors at a location in or near Wells to look, listen and soak up the details of landscape and nature, and to daydream about the latent human stories in that place before heading back to wells Maltings to write together and share their work.
