Our annual celebration
North Norfolk Festival of Literature & Landscape celebrates the unique coast, rivers, landscape and wildlife of North Norfolk.
Over the first weekend in October writers, artists, conservationists and people who live and work in or visit this environment explore nature and the landscape creatively, practically and imaginatively.
Our vision
Through our annual festival we aim to inspire, inform and enable engagement with the natural world.
We invite writers, artists and conservationists to help us appreciate and connect with the coast, land, rivers and wildlife of North Norfolk and the UK.
We encourage people of all ages to explore through reading, through their own writing and artistic expression and through getting stuck in practically in ways that make a difference – because creative activities are rewarding, life-enhancing, good for mental health and good for stewardship of the environment in which we live.
We introduce local schoolchildren to living writers, encouraging them to love reading and to write and create for themselves.
We provide a forum where farmers, fishermen, birdwatchers, wildfowlers, swimmers, sailors, walkers, nature lovers and more can connect around shared enthusiasms, and discuss how best to sustain and improve habitats for plants, fish, insects, birds and other wildlife.
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts … There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
— Rachel Carson, from Silent Spring.
Our commitment
All funds, ticket sales and sponsorship raised go towards the running of the festival, supporting the writers and artists, buying books and providing a writing prize for local children and to supporting local conservation projects.
